People are using a tool on Facebook (or other places) to filter their profile picture with the rainbow colours. While rainbows are actually a sign of God’s judgment on the world, as well as a promise, the rainbow flag has been commonly used by the LGBT movement since the 1970s as a symbol of gay pride. The short answer is because the Supreme Court of the United States of America (#SCOTUS) ruled in a 5 to 4 decision that individual states (of America) cannot ban same sex marriage.
